Project Overview
- Location: British Museum, London
- Sector: Leisure / Construction
- System: Kentledge hoarding system
- Length: 145 linear metres
- Height: 2.4m
- Environment: High-profile public entrance
- Finish: Vinyl wrapped hoarding
Hoarding Warehouse supplied 145 linear metres of our Kentledge Hoarding System for use outside the main entrance of the British Museum in London, creating a secure perimeter to protect visitors and exhibition teams during a temporary exhibition.
Working in a high-profile, busy pedestrian environment, the system needed to be fully freestanding to avoid digging or foundation works, while maintaining a clean, professional appearance in keeping with the surrounding architecture.
Specification & Build
Components
The 2.4m high hoarding used recycled white PVC panels, a scaffold pole framework and stacked concrete kentledge blocks to form a stable structure. This made it particularly suited to the sensitive nature of the site, where protecting existing surfaces was essential.

Unlike traditional timber hoarding, the kentledge system is fully reusable. All components can be dismantled, cleaned and redeployed, offering both cost efficiency and a more sustainable approach to temporary works.
Large Format Graphics
To meet the museum’s visual standards, the public-facing side of the hoarding was fully covered with large-format ‘sandstone’ coloured vinyl wraps, which were planned, printed and installed by our experienced in-house Graphics team. The sandstone graphics were added to all panels, doors and top & bottom trims to create a consistent and refined appearance that met the museum’s exacting standards.

Secure Access
Access was built into the hoarding with a secure personnel door featuring digi-lock entry, plus a set of vehicular gates to allow controlled access for contractors and museum staff throughout the project.
Result
A secure, non-invasive and visually consistent hoarding solution, designed specifically for high-footfall public environments.
